How to access the NHS over the Easter bank holiday weekend

There are several ways in which the you can access NHS services during the bank holiday weekend (29 March to 1 April):

  • People can check the Get in the Know website to find out how to get the right care as quickly as possible when they are unwell or injured, with all the information on local urgent care services in one place. Visit: bit.ly/LLRUrgentCare.
  • If you are generally in good health, minor ailments such as coughs, colds, and sore throats are all treatable yourself with advice from your local pharmacy, NHS 111 online or the NHS App. You can find your local pharmacy opening hours over the bank holiday period by visiting:  https://www.england.nhs.uk/midlands/nhs-england-and-nhs-improvement-midlands-work/bank-holiday-pharmacy-opening-times/. Under the Pharmacy First scheme, many pharmacies can also now offer treatment and prescription medicine for some conditions, without you needing to see a GP.
  • If you need urgent help, please use NHS111 online, by phone or using the NHS App. You can contact NHS111 24 hours a day. They will review your symptoms and will refer you to the most appropriate service based on your needs.
  • For urgent mental health support, people can call the Central Access Point (CAP) on 0116 295 3060 and 0808 800 3302, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Only use 999 if it is a life-threatening emergency (when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk).
  • Download the NHS App to access a range of NHS services online.

GP practices are open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6.30pm, excluding bank holidays, which means they will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday (29 March and 1 April). The NHS is open, even when GP practices are closed, do seek help when you need it and use NHS 111 to get the right care, at the right time, in the right place.
